The EHRLE story began long before the company was officially founded. The family's engineering heritage dates back to Anton Ehrle (1894–1961), a master blacksmith whose expertise in metalworking laid the foundations for future generations.

In 1959, mechanical engineer Oskar Ehrle developed one of the first commercial steam cleaning machines—the DR 600—for WAP (now part of the Kärcher Group). This innovative machine helped establish a new standard in industrial cleaning technology.
